Characteristics of penoxsulam

Penoxsulam is a broad-spectrum herbicide used in rice fields. It can effectively control barnyard grass and annual sedge weeds. It is also effective against many broadleaf weeds, such as Heteranthera limosa, Eclipta prostrata, Sesbania exaltata, Commelina diffusa, Monochoria vaginalis, etc.

Weeds targeted by penoxsulam

The duration of effect is as long as 30 to 60 days, and one application can basically control weed damage throughout the season. At the same time, it can also control bensulfuron-resistant weeds in rice fields. It also has residual activity against many broadleaf and sedge weeds and barnyardgrass. However, it has no effect on Stephanotis weeds. If control is needed, it can be mixed with cyhalofop-methyl. It is the variety with the broadest herbicidal spectrum among herbicides used in rice fields.

Penoxsulam’s mode of action

Penoxsulam is a conductive herbicide. However absorbed through stems, leaves, shoots and roots. Conducted through xylem and phloem to meristem. Inhibit plant growth and cause the growing points to lose green. The terminal buds turned red and necrotic 7 to 14 days after treatment, and the plants died in 2 to 4 weeks. This agent is a strong acetolactate synthase inhibitor. The pesticide appears slowly, and it will take some time for the weeds to gradually die.

Dosage

Penoxsulam is very safe for rice. Penoxsulam is suitable for dry direct seeding fields, water direct seeding fields, rice seedling fields, as well as rice seedling throwing and transplanting cultivation fields. The dosage is 15~30g a.i./hm2.  Water direct seeding is applied in early post-emergence stage. But  for transplanting cultivation, pesticides should be applied 5 to 7 days after transplanting. The pesticide application method can be spraying or soil mixing.
